Madame Tussaud’s
With the most amazing wax sculptures of possibly every famous person who has walked this Earth, it’s no wonder Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London gets over 2 million visitors every year. Starting from the Best of British display, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London stretches on displaying figures under categories such as Fashion, Royalty, Popular Musicians, World Leaders, Hollywood Stars, Bollywood Stars, TV Stars, Sports Stars and Cultural Figures.
The Best of British section houses wax replicas of the Queen, Prince William, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, Robbie Williams, Posh and Becks, Kate Moss and Madame Tussaud herself. Other famous figures displayed under the Royalty category include Prince Charles, Prince Harry, (Former) Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cornwall. Popular Musicians include Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Justin Timberlake, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams and J-Lo. Wax figures of Hollywood Stars, such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Leanardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp and Whoopi Goldberg attract a massive crowd to the museum everyday.
World leaders including Gandhi, Marting Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Ronald Reagan, JFK and current political figures are also displayed at Madame Tussaud’s. Pablo Picasso, Albert Einstein, Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Muhammad Ali and the world’s favorite meanie Simon Cowell are not to be missed by any visitor to the museum. All of the wax figures are so life-like, so don’t be surprised or embarrassed if you mistakenly ask one of them for directions!
Although glamor and fame is associated with the wax museum now, the museum’s history is anything but that. Madame Tussaud inherited the wax museum in France from her teacher Dr. Curtius, but sadly, the 18th century wax museum’s use was a far cry from what it is today. Wax death masks were made here to bring a jinx upon royal figures in France at the time, including Marie Antoinette and Louis IV. After quite a grim saga, Madame Tussaud relocated herself and her museum in London in 1835. From then on, as the adage goes, the rest is history. Some of the ancient horrors are still kept alive at the Chamber of Horrors, but now they are merely exhibited for amusement.
Madame Tussaud’s is located in central London, within minutes from Baker Street. With so many
London hotels around, you can pick and choose your ideal hotel. London is a bustling city and you should be prepared for some hotel room-hunting after you arrive. So, it’s best to call up several London hotels and book an economy or luxury hotel in London before you arrive.
